Really beautiful. Gave me all kinds of feels. And yeah, as Margaret said below, the lines "mica of granite glinting / the north swallows winter / like it will never return" are just stunning. Lovely work!
Thank you so much, Dick. I think I've mentioned before how much I appreciate people taking time to write comments, but I mean it. When I joined Substack in January I hadn't written much for a long time. Joining was something of an experiment. What I've found is the interaction with other poetry lovers and writers galvanises me to write again, and I love that. So thank you for taking the time - it's a true inspiration!
It has been similar for me - I haven't really shared any writing or poetry of my own in a long time. And I kept trying to get things going, but it would always crap out pretty fast. And joining Substack late last year was sort of a last ditch effort at getting started again. Then after a couple of months I crapped out again, but this time I managed to get myself back into it. And yeah - the main reason was because I have found the poetry writers here really inspiring (yourself included), and yeah. Love that too!
Thank you, Margaret. There’s a lot of granite where I live. The mica sparkles in the spring and deep into summer. I love it and I’m so glad some of it sparkled through into the poem. Thank you!

Thanks, Dick. It’s wonderful to meet people with likeminded passions! 🙂
The poem is so lovely. I really like this stanza:
mica of granite glinting
the north swallows winter
like it will never return
This is amazing and so beautiful. What a gift to your daughter.

Thank you, LeeAnn. Your comment feels like a gift. I will treasure it. 🙂
I was sure I’d commented on this already, but I can’t quite remember what I put, so have a huge thumbs up instead.
